Saffron Indian Restaurant
It’s some years since we visited Saffron Indian Restaurant in Woodlands Park, Bradley Stoke so we thought we would re-visit this highly thought of restaurant. We were greeted by the owner Abul, and shown to our table in the well lit restaurant which has a large downstairs dining area with the addition of a galleried up-stairs eating area. High beamed ceilings, fresh flowers, warm ambience and attentive service give a good first impression.
We order our meal from the extensive menu which offered a good variety of dishes, the menu is well laid out, clearly defined sections for starters, Chef’s specials, Tandoori dishes, Mild Dishes, Medium and Hot plus a menu for vegetarians, a special section for Seafood lovers and Biriani and Balti dishes. We opted for a chicken Chat £4.20 and King Prawn Butterfly £5.90 from the starter menu and to follow we chose a selection from the medium menu, I chose Rogan chicken,(£6.20) this rich and exotic North Indian dish cooked with glazed tomatoes, green herbs and spices was heavenly, my partner chose the Badhonia Lamb(£7.20), cooked with butter beans which had loads of coriander and served in a thick spiced sauce with the chefs own recipe which was fairly hot, the spices seemed to make your mouth explode, we chose a Pilau rice to accompany our meal and garlic nan, washed down with a couple of glasses of wine and we were thoroughly stuffed and content.
A young couple on the next table told us they were regulars and had never had a bad meal so this speaks for itself; the restaurant was fairly full when we visited on Friday night, as well as their busy take away service. The restaurant offers a special discount if you have ID and work for one of the nearby companies such as Orange, Rolls Royce, Airbus, RAC, AXA, Frenchay and Southmead Hospitals, I will have to put getting a job at one of these companies on my wish list.
Well lit car park and all major credit cards are taken.
Set your Sat-Nav or get directions from their website, it really is worth the effort, - its good- really good!
